Banksy's Art Stunt

Banksy, a controversial artist, has recently shocked the art world! He sold one of his most famous pieces of art, "Girl with a Balloon", for 2 million dollars....and then proceeded to shred it in front of the crowd. I wonder what message he was trying to tell the message. On his instagram his caption was "going.. going.. gone". Possibly he was mocking the mere culture of auctioning art and how people spend so much money on material things that can all be stripped away from them.
