Subway Signs - Around the World
So the Documentary we watched the other day got me thinking about how I never realized how much Helvetica is used and seen in our everyday lives. Specifically, over the weekend I was in New York and it got me thinking about subway signs in places I've visited or lived in in the past. Here are subway signs I found online, in Paris, Seoul (where I was born), Tokyo, New York, and London. It really blew my mind that I never realized they all used the same font. I guess it just goes to show that Helvetica is so engrained in our surroundings that we wouldn't notice its omnipresence unless it's pointed out (or maybe it's just me).

Exactly! It is everywhere, partially because it has a sort of flexibility, while also being authoritative perhaps. I'm going to be a total typeface nerd / stickler and point out that the London Underground font is similar, but it's actually "Johnston Sans." I think the Paris font might be called "Parisine" - also very similar. The lower case "a" gives it away! I love the composition / design of Wangsimni Station sign from Seoul - thats definitely Helvetica.
