Makeup as art
I'm a certified makeup artist, but if you know me from FNAR264, you'll know that I don't wear makeup much in my day-to-day life. That's probably because my introduction to makeup was pretty different from most people's. I used to dance competitively, and makeup was an extension of our performance--it was a part of our expression, and it was a part of our artwork. Since then, I've viewed makeup as a form of art and a form of expression. It's an extension of who I am. (Though I'll admit--I occasionally wear makeup just to cover up them acnes. Lol.)

Below are a few of my work and my collaborations that captures my style and the kinds of art & commercial work I do as a makeup artist:
If y'all are interested in seeing more from this kind of makeup or editorial makeup in general, you can check out these artists & magazines (I've linked their Instagram handle below):
- Julien Rol (@julien_rol_official): Julien is my biggest inspiration as a makeup artist, and he was recently named the top 10 brand ambassadors in the beauty industry. He entered the Make Up For Ever Academy with little experience in makeup, and now he's one of the biggest names in the editorial field. I've collaborated with him on a few projects in the past 2 years; it's mesmerizing seeing him work.
- Make Up For Ever Academy (@makeupforeveracademy): The best academy for editorial makeup in the world. Period. They share a bunch of their students' artwork; trust me when I say these many of these top "students" are qualified to be senior artists at most makeup brands even before entering the academy.
- Netta Szekely (@nettart): MAC's senior artist, based in Israel. She's known for achieving editorial makeup looks with very few products and rather simple steps. She frequently does fashion shows and masterclasses, and she often shares insider tips at these events on her InstaStory.
- Alexa Meade (@alexmeadeart): Her body art has long challenged the boundaries of "makeup". Many people in the industry see her work as "body art"--unlike Julien and Netta's artwork, which are still deemed as "editorial makeup". She's the artist who did Ariana Grande's body art in the "God is a Woman" music video.
- Vanessa Davis (@the_wigs_and_makeup_manager): Vanessa is a legend in theatrical and artistic makeup. Her style and scale are similar to Alexa Meade's style, but Vanessa's art is still deemed as "makeup" rather than "body art" most of the time. Though Vanessa definitely has a few large-scale body art pieces!
- James Charles (@jamescharles): Y'all probably have heard of this name before, so I'm gonna keep it short--James Charles is among the few influencers who do quite a lot of editorial makeup.
- Linda Hallberg (@lindahallberg) Makeup artist & influencer. She leans more on the tamer side of editorial makeup, but her style is unique, classy, yet bold nonetheless.
