Self Destructing Art

Recently, one of the British artist Bansky's paintings was sold at an auction. As soon as it was sold, it immediately began shredding itself via a built in shredder inside the frame.
I am curious to what Banksy, who made the piece was trying to say. To me, it seems like he is criticizing the idea of art being assigned value and sold as a commodity. Ironically, the now partially destroyed painting may be worth more than the original.
