Seoul Fashion Week Spring 2019
Right off the plane from New York, Fashion Week landed in Seoul just about a month after it ended in New York. But while designers showcased their work for the approaching spring/summer 2019 season on the runways, a lot of coverage and attention went towards the street fashion seen during that week. Here are some of my favorites:
As you can see, the street fashion in Seoul is very much about mixing different textures and prints. They're super into cinching in oversized, baggy outerwear. They also love mixing together colors that technically don't go together but somehow (probably due to them mixing all the different prints as well), the color combinations don't look too bad.
I included this just because it's cute. I wish I was this fashionable when I was a kid.
I included this because it's very representative of typical Seoul couple's fashion. It's a thing for couples in South Korea to coordinate outfits, either colors, style, or prints, or to just flat out wear the exact same outfit much like the couple here. In America, couple outfits only really come out during holidays (if at all), but in Korea it's very common to see them on the regular.
The Korean culture is a lot more conservative than America's and you can definitely see that in their street fashion. Everyone is pretty covered, but the outfits are still so expressive due to the variety in prints and colors. You don't see a lot of form fitting, tight clothes either, but rather it's more baggy clothing that gives definition at the waist to bring back some of their figure. The difference between their street fashion and America's street fashion is so interesting and it really shows more than just the difference in clothing choices. It can also show the difference between the two countries and their cultures.
